Get some rest

As we all know, babies have a different body clock from us. They wake up every 3-4 hours because they need to be fed, changed, or comforted. This will no doubt leave you feeling exhausted most of the time. Here are some tips that you can try to get more rest:

  • If you can, get someone to help during the first few weeks while you recover yourself.
  • Get more sleep in by sleeping when the baby sleeps
  • Place your baby’s crib in your room so you can get to them quicker when you need to feed them at nighttime. This will save you time.
  • Take a few minutes each day for yourself. Go for a walk, do a bit of exercising

Eat Right

Apart from rest, you also need to make sure that your body is getting the proper nutrition that it needs to recover. Eating right will also help keep you active so you can take care of your baby better. Food that you should be incorporating in your diet at this time are:

  • Grains – A great source of healthy calories, which you will need especially if you are breastfeeding. Moms who breastfeed lose about 500 more calories a day. Grains also keep your body fueled with extra energy. Examples of whole grains that you can eat are: rice, oats, wheat.

  • Fruits and Vegetables – They are packed with iron, calcium and vitamins that will help keep you healthy and boost your immunity after birth.

  • Dairy – Incorporating calcium-rich food into your diet is essential as estrogen is low. Estrogen is needed for healthy bones as it inhibits bone resorption. Have about 1,000 milligrams — about 3 servings of preferably fat-free or low-fat dairy per day.
  • Protein – This helps with the growth and repair of your cells after birth. You can find protein in lean meats, poultry, nuts, seeds, beans.

Remember to talk to your doctor before making any major changes to your diet or routine.
