Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in men worldwide, and the 4th most common cancer in Filipino men. The risk of prostate cancer increases with age, about 6 out of 10 cases are diagnosed in men 65 years old and older. The disease usually progresses slowly with symptoms observed only when in advanced stage.

Symptoms

  • Difficulty urinating
  • Weak flow of urine
  • Need to urinate more often especially at night
  • Feeling of incomplete emptying of bladder
  • Blood in urine or semen

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Pain in hips, back and chest when cancer spreads to bones
  • Numbness or weakness of legs and feet, loss of bladder and bowel control as cancer causes pressure on the spinal cord.

Prevention

  • Eat a healthy diet that includes a variety of vegetables and fruits
  • Be physically active
  • Maintain a healthy weight

Consult a doctor for further advise and evaluation if you are 50 y/o and older or have a family history of prostate cancer or have symptoms of prostate cancer.
