Scoliosis

Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine that usually develops between ages 10 and 16. The spine curves forming a C or S shape. Severe cases can cause health complications over time.

Symptoms

  • Uneven shoulders
  • One hip higher than the other causing uneven waist
  • Back pain and discomfort
  • Loss of height
  • Problems with walking and gait
  • Trouble in standing straight
  • Body tilts to one side
  • One leg may appear shorter than the other

Treatment

Most cases of scoliosis are mild and don’t require treatment. If needed, treatment plan may include:

  • Bracing to prevent further progression of the curve 
  • Physical therapy to maintain strength and relieve pain 
  • Surgery
