Medical guidelines advise that anyone bitten or scratched by an animal should receive anti-rabies vaccination within 24 to 48 hours.* Prompt action ensures your protection — without the need for hospital emergency room visits.
Under iCare’s Primary Care Model, treatment for animal bites should be sought at accredited outpatient clinics. This ensures you receive timely and appropriate care, without the long waits associated with ER visits.

If your HMO plan does not include hospital access, please take note of the following:
Animal bites are not covered for treatment at hospital ERs.
iCare will not cover or issue Letters of Authorization (LOA) for ER visits related to animal bites.
Visit accredited outpatient clinics for vaccination.
iCare has partnered with 300 animal bite centers nationwide where you can receive cashless anti-rabies treatment.
Ensure you get vaccinated within 24-48 hours after a bite or scratch for effective protection.
By following this process, you receive the care you need— quickly, efficiently, and within your HMO coverage

We recognize that moments like these can cause concern. But knowing where to go for the right care makes a difference:
- ERs are reserved for life-threatening emergencies.
- Animal bites require urgent outpatient care, not emergency intervention, if treated promptly.
This helps you avoid unnecessary delays, while ensuring sustainable healthcare for everyone.
Where To Get Vaccinated
iCare-Accredited Animal Bite Centers and Clinics (Cashless Service)
At iCare (Insular Health Care), your safety and well-being are our top priorities—even when it comes to unexpected situations like animal bites. To ensure fast and reliable care, we’ve partnered with a network of accredited Animal Bite Centers (ABCs) across the country. These facilities are equipped to provide immediate medical attention, including post-exposure prophylaxis and vaccinations, so you can receive the treatment you need with your iCare health plan.
Key Reminders:
Immediately wash the wound with soap and water.
Proceed to an accredited clinic within 24-48 hours.
No LOA will be issued for ER visits related to animal bites.
