Sleep: Why you need enough of it

Sleep is something that we all need, but don’t get enough of. With all the things that we want to accomplish in a day, we often sacrifice our time for rest. But sleep is not merely just for regaining your energy. Here are the reasons why we need enough of it: 

Sleep improves your focus and productivity

Good sleep helps improve brain functions such as cognition, concentration, productivity and performance. It has also been shown to enhance problem-solving skills and memory in both children and adults. 

Lack of sleep puts you at greater risk for heart disease

The quality and amount of sleep that you get can greatly affect your chances of developing chronic diseases, including heart disease. Studies have shown that people who sleep less than 7-8 hours per night are at greater risk for heart disease than people who get enough hours of sleep.

Sleep deprivation puts you at risk for diabetes

Poor sleeping habits can increase your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. Sleep deprivation can lead you to get prediabetes in as little as 6 days. 

Good sleep can boost your immune system

Completing at least eight hours of sleep can do a lot in boosting your immune system, helping it combat viruses that can cause you to get sick.
